We were contracted to perform an aquifer distance/drawdown study for a petroleum retail facility. The scope of testing involved formation dewatering followed by stepped soil vapor extraction (SVE) at a constant draw-down elevation. A 24-hour pump-test determined flow and radius of influence (ROI). The vacuum enhanced groundwater extraction (VEGE) portion of the test utilized the same pump submersible pump plus a constant draw-down device and positive displacement (PD) blower controlled by a VFD. Actual groundwater extraction rates were measured with rotometers and plotted as a function of applied vacuum.
Water extraction rates increased significantly with increased applied vacuums. The ROI of induced vacuum was enhanced with formation dewatering.
COSTS: This 36-hour study, including mob/rediflo-2/VEGE/PD/generator & our labor, was billed at $4200.
